Evelyn Burnett Underwood (EBU) Scholarship Program
What is it?
The Evelyn Burnett Underwood Instrumental Assistance Program (EBU) has provided instruments and other assistance to more than 950 Urbana students from historically underrepresented groups since its inception 20 years ago. In 2016-2017, 210 students participated in instrumental music classes because of the EBU program. Sustained mostly through private donations, EBU serves as an outstanding example of community support for the arts in Urbana. If you would like more information about EBU, either to donate money or instruments or see if your student may be eligible for support, contact Stacey Peterik at [email protected].
Which students are eligible?
Students that have reduced or waived fees for the school district are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
What is the cost?
Students that need an instrument must pay a $20 maintenance fee that covers any damage to their instrument. Students that also need the Tradition of Excellence book for their instrument, need to add $10. The total fee for an instrument and book is $30 for the whole year.
What should a student do to apply?
Fill out the form below once it is posted and return to your band teacher with your money. Ms. Peterik will get you an instrument once she has your form with payment.
Does my student definitely get the instrument they apply for?
Scholarship instruments are on a first come, first serve basis. If I run out of a particular instrument, the student will be asked their second choice and will be given that instrument as long as I have it available.
